Road traffic offences in Ireland are governed primarily by the Road Traffic Acts. The most serious offences — drink driving, dangerous driving, and driving while disqualified — are criminal offences heard in the District Court. Less serious matters (speeding, minor traffic violations) are dealt with by way of Fixed Charge Notice and penalty points.
